Pike's Peak, Colorado

After Cave of the Winds, I drove up to the summit of Pike's Peak.

It started out as a nice drive. Rather warm actually. But when I got up to this stream, there was definitely a chill in the air. Notice the top of the tree line isn't much further.
Another view of the stream.
These next three pictures were all taken by that stream.
The stream again
...
By the time I got to the top, the rain and snow was really coming down. There was also thunder and lightning!
This one shows the snow collecting on the car. You can see the snow falling, and those white spots on the ground are hailstones.
Another view showing the snow.
The trip was scary - no guard rails, snow, rain, and mud.
Some more photoes showing the snow.
Snow among the tundra plants. You can see parts of the road uphill.
I just love these views. So, naturally there's lots of pictures of them!
More snow-covered rock
And more!
A good view of the road. This one really shows the steepness.
Taken at the same spot as the previous picture, looking back up the mountain.
Almost near the bottom. Looking down into a valley from a scenic overlook.
The same scenic overlook.
And the last photo from this part of the day. The same overlook as above.
